This free beanie pattern was based on Gina Doherty’s Skull Hat pattern, with a few changes to the border. I cast on 98 stitches using 3.25mm needles for the inner layer and 3.75mm needles for the outer layer of the hat, hoping this would be the right size for an eight month old. My tension wasn’t great on the fair isle, I pulled it too tight and as a consequence think it’s more a 3 month old size. Live and learn!I shaped the top using Jennifer Lee’s “Sandy” crown shaping.

I found this leaflet pattern in the op shop which looks way too retro. The basic pattern is perfect to knit up for children 6 – 12 years, so here is a modern take on an old pattern.

I have a friend who has just had a 1.6 kg baby. This is a cute pattern that I’m hoping will fit. Found at this site it’s knitted in four ply. It looks so tiny!  http://www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/my_pages/babywear/hkp/017.shtml

I like the way raglan sleeve cardigans fit on little people. The first two outfits are examples of a plain pattern that has been  customised. Unfortunately the pattern isn’t in print any more but there are plenty of examples on line.

Even though we are having a very mild autumn, I’ve been trawling the patterns on line to make some fingerless mitts and bedsocks for the family. The children’s mitts are from ‘Adorable kids fingerless mitts by Kiwiyarns Knits,’ and the small sized ladies mitts are from ‘Lazy Rib Fingerless Mitts by Chocolatetrudi.’

The boy’s bedsocks are 18 cm long and are from the vintage pattern ‘Lady’s and Child’s Bed Socks from Patons Knitting Book No. 248.’

Holiday Knitting

aran baby jacket and wool embroidery 002a

We stayed for three weeks in the beautiful Whanarua Bay around the East Cape of the North Island. Gorgeous and raw, the landscape is full of rocky beaches, mature native trees and heaps of bird life. There was plenty of time in the evenings to read and knit this Aran Jacket set from Patons’ book 5000.

I’m getting a jump on knitting things for our very cute grandson before the cold weather sets in. The red ‘Sublime Henry Tank’ is knitted with a ‘check pattern’ and six stitch cable, I’ve used Burda’s 9792 sewing pattern for the shirt. The Hoodie is another Bernat Hoodie which is a free pattern found on ‘favecrafts’. This time I made it in the ’tile stitch’ which was also a free pattern online. Thanks to all those who share your creativity with the rest of us 🙂
