Birdie Cake

Our cutie pie grand-daughter had her first birthday last week and I was lucky enough to make her cake. There was a beautiful 3-layer cake on the net which got modified down to 1-layer.

I’ve been wanting to applique a boat for some time to complete the wall hangings down one of the corridors at work. A resident drew me up a large 2 masted schooner and I’ve turned that into a wall hanging. The ocean was pieced using Karen Eckmeier’s idea of freeform and topstitched curves and the machine quilting is using some of Leah Day’s ideas.
