I have a few old woollen blankets that are too tatty to use anymore, most of them sourced from op shops. They make wonderful oven cloths, I’ve had one for five years and it washes up fine in the washing machine. The best size seems to be 65cm long by 38 cm wide (25″x 15″). I cut two pieces of blanket the same size then embellish one piece with either embroidery or for the two below, with wool applique. My applique fabric is often from felted wool skirts that I’ve also found in an op shop. When I’m happy with the look I back it with the second piece of cut fabric to hide the stitching. To finish I bind the edge as you would with a quilt.

Applique flowers wall hanging

One of the residents has a blank wall to look at when in bed, so this will help to liven it up. Think she likes the outdoors.

The grand finale is another itajime wall hanging- for the home this time.
